Rewilding | Ancestral Skill Share
By learning how our early ancestors lived, we (re)discover the Wilderness within and without—an authentic and untamed intelligence and state of being. Ancient Indigenous life skills are place-based, animistic, and creative in nature, connecting us directly to the cyclical way of being. They include: Fire making and fire cooking; shelter building; basket weaving; cord making, spinning, and weaving with plant and animal fibers; natural dyeing and clothing making; pottery—baking clay and harvesting pigment; cyclical living—connecting with the seasons within and without; wild foods and medicine—working with wild plants and fungi; horticulture—planting, growing, and preserving seeds; sensory animism; ecosystems and connecting with death; life-stage ceremonies and the wheel of the year; natural parenting; exploring the environment and understanding animal tracks; dark friends; nonviolent communication and tribe; decolonization; wood carving and tool making from stone, wood, and bone; hide working. mythology & storytelling; building instruments and making music; natural movement.
By rewilding, we learn directly and pragmatically to care for ourselves, our family and community (each other), and the land. In doing so, we reclaim our self-determination and learn to take responsibility. The breadth of our comfort, competence, and affluence expands.
Although the crafts are ancient, in practicing them we are fully present in the present moment. And we also define a new, living future. By practicing cyclical living and other ancestral skills, we can re-member our own animality, our origins, and our home in Nature.

What’s Included
Primal craft
You’ll make your own tools and playfully learn basic skills that our early ancestors knew and refined to survive in and with nature. You’ll create with your own hands and become skilled in working with various natural materials.
Animism
Spending time outdoors together around a homemade fire, immersed in the elements, sharing basic primitive skills, and sharing stories, deepens our connection and sense of belonging in nature and with each other. We experience directly and pragmatically that nature has everything we need.
To share
We gather to learn and practice together, but we can also share our knowledge and stories with others. Sometimes there’s a guest teacher, but mostly we explore a skill or craft together. Wood, clay, and other materials are provided, but you’ll need a sturdy (pocket)knife and something like a rug. Tea is provided, and we can cook on the fire. You’re invited to bring snacks or lunch to share.
